Email Marketing: Broadcast Emails VS Follow Up Emails

If you are using an autoresponder to build your list, do you use broadcast emails or follow up emails feature more frequently?

Most industry standard autoresponder will have both features. They are important keys to email marketing. Ultimately, email marketing is about sending emails. And you will using these 2 features to email your subscribers.

What is the difference between both and when is the best time to use broadcast or follow up emails?

In this post, let’s dive deep into the topic and discuss about them.

First, I always encourage my students and customers to build their own list so that they can have a sustainable internet business.

The beauty of having a list allows you to be able to communicate with your subscribers by emailing them with new content and offers.

Sometime, you also can ask them questions and get them to reply you.

This is when you need to know the main difference between a broadcast email and follow up email.

Follow Up Email

Follow up emails are usually pre-set to include the welcome emails and a few more follow up emails and that send out at a regular interval to continue to communicate with your new subscribers.

You need the Follow Up Email feature in order to send out the welcome emails instantly when a new subscriber join your list.

This cannot be done using the broadcast function. As the name Follow Up Email suggests, this feature allows you to prepare the emails beforehand and the autoresponder will send them out based on the schedule that you have set up.

So how many emails should you prepared when you first started out?

There is no hard and fast rule about this. However, it is best that you include at least 3 to 5 emails including the first welcome email.

It is also perfectly fine to prepare lots of emails, even up to hundreds of them and let the autoresponder do the job of sending them to your subscribers.

The key advantage here is automation.

If you prepared lots of emails and loaded them in your follow up email sequence, then you do not need to come back frequently to add more emails or send broadcast emails.

Broadcast Email

Broadcast email feature is actually sending the email instantly. Although at times, you also can schedule the broadcast to go out at later time.

For example, you want to promote a product launch that is happening in a few hours time but you will not be able to login to your autoresponder at that time. So you set up the broadcast email now but schedule it to send out at the launch time.

Broadcast email is perfect for sending current hot offers and content to your subscribers regardless of which stage of the follow up email sequence they are at.

Lots of marketers including myself, prefer to send out broadcast emails.

As mentioned earlier, we like broadcast emails as we can communicate with the subscribers on the current topics and engage them.

It is difficult to do that for follow up emails as the subscribers come in at different time.

In addition, for broadcast emails, you can send emails to the same group of subscribers again based on their action taken.

For example, you can send the email to the same group of subscribers who opened and read your email but did not click on the link to check out the offer that you are recommending. You want to only send email to this segment of your subscribers to remind them about the amazing offer.

Hence, broadcast emails are able to be delivered to a specific segments of your subscribers.

This helps to also build the relationship with the subscribers and also learn more about them.

Normally it would be best for you to use Getresponse or Aweber, but you can consider using other autoresponders if you have niche requirements. For Brick and Mortar stores you can actually use Mailchimp as they have stringent requirements that your business will be able to meet without any issues.

The first time you mail them is the first impression that they have of you.

The First Email

The first email that your subscribers get will be the most meaningful one that they can and will get. Not only does the first email consistently get the highest open and click through rate, it also has the ability to be the first introduction that you subscribers get from you. You can consider a call to action that would really entice your audience and keep them engaged in a variety of ways. For example you can get your audience to do a survey or join a Facebook group.

Get the word out, make an email broadcast.

As you reach out to your audience from your current list, you will eventually run out of emails in your autoresponder. One of the benefits of most autoresponders is the ability for you to be able to reach out to all of your subscribers at the same time with a broadcast. This is especially so for Brick and Mortar stores that are constantly rolling out new offers and products and will not have much need for an autoresponder sequence.

Cross selling allows you to make the most of your list.

Cross selling is the act of selling additional goods and services to your current customers. This is easy for you to do as you will now have a list of customers that you will get over time. With these customers you can now promote related products that they would want or need. As you have built a business relationship with them before, and have a good rapport with them they will be more likely to purchase from you, especially if they are shown relevant products.

Building A Good Relationship With Your Email List

One of the ways to earn money online is to build an email list and do email marketing to profit.  Email marketing can be applied to both online and offline businesses.

In fact, having a list of your prospects and customers is a must have, and very much an asset to any business, be it online or off.

Method #1: Providing Valuable Content

Content is “KING” on the internet.  When you provide valuable content and information, your subscribers will be able to get informed and educated.

If you truly want to help your subscribers, you want them to be able to solve their deepest problems. You can email your subscribers tips and tricks on how to do deal with certain issues or point them to useful resources that can help them.

Method #2: Survey And Feedback

To truly understand your subscribers, you need to gather information about what they want.

You can conduct a survey, poll or simply ask them for feedback in your emails.  Remember, your subscribers are humans too, not just an email address.

You can use free tools such as Google Online Forms or Survey Monkey to get their feedback.  For example, you can list down a few issues that you think is the most pressing for your topic and ask your subscribers to rank these issues. Once you know what is it they want help in, you can offer suitable products and services as solutions. This matches the problems faced to potential solutions which helps you make much more revenue in your business.

Method #3: Sharing About Yourself And Your Experiences

Believe me, one of the best ways to build a good relationship with your email list is simply to show them you’re a real person just like them! Your subscribers and customers want to know WHO is writing the emails, show yourself, have a personality. Build trust.

Too many marketers hide behind their emails and chose to remain “faceless”.

For example, you can put a photo of yourself in your emails as a sign off. This is simple but powerful.

It’s an easy way to connect and build rapport with your list.

Here’s what you need, this is what I call a “money-getting” formula…

1. SQUEEZE PAGE

A squeeze page is simply a ONE page website whose only objective is to get  prospects’ contact information or email addresses…

Keep it simple. It can be ugly and still make millions.

No distraction or other ads.

JUST GET THEIR EMAILS.

2. OFFER 

You need to sell a product to make money, it can be your own or a merchant’s product.

To keep it simple, it can be a merchant’s product (affiliate marketing) so you just need to redirect subscribers who optin from your squeeze page to your affiliate link!

You can promote an affiliate offer that pays you $20-$50 per sale, or one that has the potential to earn you up to $5,000 a sale. 

Which makes more sense, especially if it takes the same effort to promote either one? As I said in my book, making high commissions is a much better option, all things being equal.

3. EMAILS

You MUST learn to write great, money-making email messages that SELL.

You can write a series of them and presave them in your autoresponder campaign, and also send email broadcasts to your list of subscribers.

4. TRAFFIC

Master a few traffic strategies to promote your squeeze page…

Keep sending traffic so you grow your list and make money daily!
