How To Choose A Niche For Your Internet Business

how to choose a niche

In order to start an internet business, you’ll need to pick a specific market to go into. The specific market that you are interested in is the niche.

What Is A Niche?

A niche is small but profitable segment of a market suitable for focused attention by a marketer.

Deciding on the niche is essential for both internet and physical businesses.

For example, if you want do an offline business; what type of business do you want to engage in? If you wish to start a consultancy firm, what is the type of consultancy do you intend to do?

  1. Marketing?
  2. Sales?
  3. Human resources?
  4. Finances?

Each is a specific topic that your business is focusing on. And, in the internet marketing industry, we usually refer to this specific market or topic as niche.

Same for starting your own internet business, you’ve to select a specific niche to focus on.

How To Select A Niche?

Let’s discuss on how to select a niche. There are 2 ways to do this.

1) Using Your Passion Or Hobby

Turn your passion or hobby and start with them. By choosing something that you already like, it is easier to start the business as you already have the knowledge in the topic itself.

Maybe you are an avid golfer and you have been playing golf for years and know a thing or two about swinging the golf club.

You may want to share your knowledge about having the perfect swing and in the process promote golf equipment or golf training course or even create your own digital product to teach other to how swing the golf club.

Following your passion allows you to be more enthusiastic when you are starting the business.

However, you’ll need to take note and accept that your passion might not be as profitable as you thought to be at first.

It is easy for you to start as you love the topic but you also need to be realistic and practical at the same time.

After all, your aim is to make money from the business. If eventually, your passion is actually not making profits for you, it does not mean that you have failed. It just means that you might need to market your business from another angle.

Unless, your hobby or niche is so “unpopular” or there is no related service or products that you can sell, then starting the internet business based on your passion should be fine.

2) Evergreen Markets

Another way to choose a niche for your internet business is to select the specific topic from the evergreen markets.

Evergreen markets refer to markets that consumers are always buying the products or services and at the same time, there are always new products or services introduced.

The 3 biggest evergreen markets are:

-Improving Health
-Creating Wealth
-Improving Relationship

The above 3 markets are the biggest and there are always have something new for the consumers.

If you look closely into these markets, you’ll find yourselves also as a consumer in at least one of them.

Anyone would yearn for a better health, more money and better relationship.

But, the niche is not in health, wealth or relationship.

Instead, you should select the specific topic to focus on.

All 3 of them are very, very HUGE markets.

Within health alone, there are some many different aspects of health:

  • Skin Care
  • Weight Loss
  • Anti-Aging
  • Natural Remedies
  • Mental Health
  • Strength Training
    and many more!

As for making money to create wealth, there are so many ways to make money.

It does not restrict to just making money online. It can also be about physical offline business.

At the start of this post, I started with a consultancy business example. The niche can be about providing human resources consultancy to construction companies.

Now, you can tell that it is a very specific market, provide human resources consultancy to construction companies, and not F&B businesses or Accountancy firms.

The niche has to be specific.

For, internet business itself, you can venture into:

  • eBay Auctions
  • Blogging
  • Ecommerce
  • Internet Marketing
  • Online Forex Trading
    and many more!

Even within ecommerce, you’ll also need to go in-depth to what you really want to focus on. Is it going to be pure Arbitrage business or Dropshipping? What kind of products do you want to sell?

In short, you need to be very specific about your niche.

You can go as specific as reducing flapping arms size for women above 40 years old in the health –weight loss market.

Before, you decide on what niche to target, you should also do your due diligence to research about it.

I had written a separate article on how you can research your market using 3 simple tools earlier.

Please read it if you have not.

So assuming that you already done your research and decided on your niche. The next step is to build a website around this niche and start to do your promotion.

Unfortunately, what if after months of consistent effort, there is still no results?

You may ask me, did I chose wrongly or should I change the niche?

Now, if you are really working hard to promote your websites consistently, not just once or twice or whenever you feel like it, then you might want to relook at your marketing efforts.

Unless you have chosen a niche that is based on trend, and the trend had past, then it might be wise to move on.

I hope you have benefited from this post and do like and share it if you find it useful! Thank you!

Building Confidence In Your Internet Business

Do you sometimes feel like you just don’t have the bold confidence necessary to succeed in internet business? Maybe you need a boost in your internet business confidence, or maybe you are just getting started and need some extra confidence to take that first step. Here are some tips for building confidence in internet business.

Get Educated

One of the most important confidence-builders is knowing that you know what you know! You may have a lot of great internet business ideas but you don’t have the know-how to make it happen. Educate yourself about how to market your product or service – what is your competition? How can you reach your demographic? What kinds of advertising should you do?

You may need some nuts-and-bolts education, too – for example, how do you set up an effective website? You may need some practical knowledge to help you reach your goals.

There are many ways to educate yourself in business. You can hire a business coach to help you one-on-one. You can also download eBooks, sign up with boards and forums where business-savvy people congregate, and ask questions of successful people.

One of the most important factors that getting educated can help you to build your confidence is because you are also getting updated with the latest trends and changes in your industry.

This allows you to be able to stay ahead of the competition and be confident about your internet business and makes unlimited profits.

Get Focused

Getting educated is the key to getting focused. You really can’t boldly march forward if you don’t know what direction you’re going in. Take some time to focus on your internet business. What, exactly, are you doing? What do you want to do? Who is your target market or demographic?

If you have diverse interests, this can be difficult – but it’s even more necessary, because diverse interests can be distracting if you don’t focus on one at a time. So once you get yourself educated about your market and what you want to do, you can launch a focused business (or focus an existing one).

Staying focus helps you to understand your internet business more and let you be more efficient in managing your internet business.

More importantly, if you have invested in a program or training course, please stay focus on it and do not jump from product to product. You need to follow through with what you have invested and make full use of the product.

Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

We all know that businessman or woman – the one who has written ten books, has a dozen jobs, and has a perfect house. You may not be that kind of person, and such a schedule and goals are just not realistic for you. It’s really not advantageous to compare yourself to others. Set your own realistic standards and compare your progress against those.

Everyone has their own pace and unique environment. Don’t let that bring you down. Be confident in yourself.

Believe in Your Success

A lot of people swear by the power of positive thinking. It is said that visualizing your goals can attract the very things you need to reach your goals. Even if you don’t get into the visualization bit, you can benefit from believing in your internet business and your own competence.

Trust your instinct and believe in yourself. Being optimistic is definitely much better than a pessimistic.

Once you get confident, you will be much more likely to attract clients, which in turn will build your confidence. It’s a good cycle to get into and eventually leads to unlimited profits.

Getting The Most Out Of Your Solo Ads

Solo Ads is one of the easiest paid traffic methods to implement, especially if you are new to the internet business.

You do not need to learn about any new advertising platform or learn how to create a compelling ad copy or decide what are the keywords to target.

The only thing that you are required to do is to research for the solo ads vendor.

All you have to do next is to contact the seller and make a payment. Of course, you MUST provide him with your website URL that you wish to promote.

Solo ads is most effective for promoting squeeze pages. Please do not buy solo ads to promote your content blog!

But take note, as this is an online world, the truth is that, there are scammers out there. So be careful 😛

Today, let me guide you through some basic steps to get the most of your solo ads investment.

As I am in the make money online industry, the steps below are with reference to this industry. If you are in other niche, the same rules and steps apply too.

Below is the basic guide for you to follow before you buy a solo ads.

1. Basic Rules

– Expensive solo ads doesn’t mean it is quality

– It is not necessary to buy 100% tier 1 traffic, at least 80% tier 1 traffic is good enough

– Buy at most 100 clicks at one time when you are first starting out

– Do not be enticed by the seller’s massive discount when he offered you more clicks

– You must always test the seller first before buying more clicks from the same seller again

– If the clicks are too cheap, then they are too good to be truth

Always remember these basic rules so that you can maxmise the use of your budget.

2. Do Your Research

– Make sure the vendor is in the same niche as you are in

– Check the latest testimonials before you buy solo ads from the vendor

– Make sure they have some testimonials with sales

– Check out for any negative feedback

For internet marketing niche, you can search for “Solo ads Testimonials” on Facebook and you will come across many groups.

Request to join a few of them.

Next, check out their posts after your request to join the groups has been approved.

Select one solo ads seller that you are interested in.

Use the search function and look for the rest of the posts with the name of vendor to see if the vendor has any other feedback.

When you are checking out the testimonials, do take note if there is any sales. You should also try to cross check the buyer of the solo ads on the same group to see if he buys from any other sellers.

If the same pair of seller and buyer keep appearing but without having any other different seller or buyer…

WARNING: They might be fake testimonials.

So you’ll need to do your due diligence to research on the vendor. It should not take you more than 30 minutes to do this.

Repeat the process everything you are looking for a new solo ads vendor.

3. Shortlist A Few Solo Ads Vendor And Contact Them

If you are not sure if they are in your niche, please ask them.

When you are interested to make a purchase, check out the price first.

Tell them that you are new to solo ads and ask them if it is possible to give you a discount.

If you are agreeable to the price, then the vendor will provide you with steps to make the payment. Most of them use PayPal to collect payment.

Also ask them when they will deliver the clicks. Usually, they will inform you when you can expect to receive the clicks.

After that, please provide them with your website URL so that the vendor can send to his list to drive traffic to your website.

4. Receive Your Clicks

After you have received the clicks, most vendors will provide you with the traffic report.

Now, you’ll need to check certain statistics about this report.

Check the unique number of clicks received and the quality of the traffic. How many percent is tier 1 traffic?

Make sure that the numbers tally with what you have purchased.

Scan through the report to check the IP of the traffic sources. If there is an IP address that consistently keep popping up.

Contact the vendor and ask why.

Next, you should also check the number of subscribers that just joined you and if there is any sales.

If you are interested to get your own tracking software, check this out: http://ClickASAP.com

We use this service for tracking clicks and many solo ads vendors use this too.

5. Read The Statistics

Check the optin rate which is the number of new subscribers divided by total number of unique clicks/visitors.

If the percentage is ridiculously low such as less than 10%, you might want to ask the vendor.

A typical internet marketing squeeze page performs at, at least 30% optin rate.

Next, you should check out the number of sales. If there are sales and you earn commission, then you might have a profitable solo ads campaign which earns you free subscribers and commission.

Here you have it. A simple guide for you to follow to get the most out of your solo ads investment.

I hope this helps you.

Email Marketing: Broadcast Emails VS Follow Up Emails

If you are using an autoresponder to build your list, do you use broadcast emails or follow up emails feature more frequently?

Most industry standard autoresponder will have both features. They are important keys to email marketing. Ultimately, email marketing is about sending emails. And you will using these 2 features to email your subscribers.

What is the difference between both and when is the best time to use broadcast or follow up emails?

In this post, let’s dive deep into the topic and discuss about them.

First, I always encourage my students and customers to build their own list so that they can have a sustainable internet business.

The beauty of having a list allows you to be able to communicate with your subscribers by emailing them with new content and offers.

Sometime, you also can ask them questions and get them to reply you.

This is when you need to know the main difference between a broadcast email and follow up email.

Follow Up Email

Follow up emails are usually pre-set to include the welcome emails and a few more follow up emails and that send out at a regular interval to continue to communicate with your new subscribers.

You need the Follow Up Email feature in order to send out the welcome emails instantly when a new subscriber join your list.

This cannot be done using the broadcast function. As the name Follow Up Email suggests, this feature allows you to prepare the emails beforehand and the autoresponder will send them out based on the schedule that you have set up.

So how many emails should you prepared when you first started out?

There is no hard and fast rule about this. However, it is best that you include at least 3 to 5 emails including the first welcome email.

It is also perfectly fine to prepare lots of emails, even up to hundreds of them and let the autoresponder do the job of sending them to your subscribers.

The key advantage here is automation.

If you prepared lots of emails and loaded them in your follow up email sequence, then you do not need to come back frequently to add more emails or send broadcast emails.

Broadcast Email

Broadcast email feature is actually sending the email instantly. Although at times, you also can schedule the broadcast to go out at later time.

For example, you want to promote a product launch that is happening in a few hours time but you will not be able to login to your autoresponder at that time. So you set up the broadcast email now but schedule it to send out at the launch time.

Broadcast email is perfect for sending current hot offers and content to your subscribers regardless of which stage of the follow up email sequence they are at.

Lots of marketers including myself, prefer to send out broadcast emails.

As mentioned earlier, we like broadcast emails as we can communicate with the subscribers on the current topics and engage them.

It is difficult to do that for follow up emails as the subscribers come in at different time.

In addition, for broadcast emails, you can send emails to the same group of subscribers again based on their action taken.

For example, you can send the email to the same group of subscribers who opened and read your email but did not click on the link to check out the offer that you are recommending. You want to only send email to this segment of your subscribers to remind them about the amazing offer.

Hence, broadcast emails are able to be delivered to a specific segments of your subscribers.

This helps to also build the relationship with the subscribers and also learn more about them.

So I hope you have a better understanding of what broadcast emails and follow up emails are about and when to use them.

Let’s me know when do you use follow up emails and broadcast emails and what do you like about them in the comments below.

If you currently do not have any autoresponder yet and looking for one, I highly recommend you to check this out: Http://ProfessionalResponder.com

Build A Targeted News Or Blog Site In 4 Steps

Some of the most successful news sites or blog sites are highly targeted websites, aiming for a specific type of market. You can learn how to build a targeted news or blog site in 4 steps and this post will tell you how to do it.

Why do you want to create a specific website?

This is because specific sites are more likely to attract search engine traffic, more likely to get passed along within a community and also attract higher-paying advertisers than more generic websites.

Here’s how to start a targeted news or blog site in 4 steps.

1) Select a Specific Topic or Area of Interest

The more specific you can get, the better.

Instead of “online business” which is a hugely crowded market, a much more specific website would be a blog about “raising venture capital for an online business.”

You’ll need to go deep into the market and offer an attractive solution to your potential customer. For example, online business marketing software site targeting specifically on marketing software for online business.

You can also target specific locations. For example, “New York Restaurant Blog” has a very good chance of making its way around the NY foodie network.

2) Stay on Top of Current Events in Your Field

It’s crucial if you’re blogging about a specific interest that you stay on top of the industry. There are a few ways to do this.

The first is to subscribe to RSS feeds from various blogs in your industry. Whenever a piece of news hits one of these blogs, you should be the first to know.

You can also use a news and website aggregator to stay on top of non-blog websites.

3) Write with Personality and Insight

Let your personality out and let your thoughts be known. In many markets, what’s being talked about has been beaten to death so many times that people choose blogs based more on the personality than the news they carry.

Of course, you still have to provide Grade A content. This often comes in the form of your own personal insights rather than just facts.

One great example is Gary Vaynerchuk. His personality is so interesting and so insulting that people can’t help but read the entire website or watch his videos – and by that time, they feel like they have to buy.

4) Apply Proven Marketing Techniques

Make your website search engine friendly. Start building an email list. Find other people in your industry that you can partner with.

Add Google AdSense and ShareASale to start monetizing your site to start with; but don’t underestimate what others would be willing to pay for an ad placement on a prominent site in a specific industry.

Add Clickbank and Amazon products banners onto your website. Both programs are free to apply to get affiliate links.

Search for affiliate products in your own market and promote them.

For example, if you own a health website, you might be getting $5 CPM from Market Health. But an advertiser who sees your site as good branding to be associated with might be willing to pay as much as $15 CPM – sometimes more.

Starting a targeted news or blog site is a great way to build a solid reputation in an industry. You can make more money than a broader website, with less work to boot.

Connecting With Your Target Market Fast

Do you know how to connect with your target market? Beside the need to understand the market, what else do you need to do in order to connect with your target market?

Before you connect with them, you must first be able to understand their pains and problems. This enables you to be able to recommend the best solution to them which in turn helps to increase your sales conversion.

Ultimately, you want to be able to build a strong relationship with your target market.

So how do you connect and talk to your market?

The more you can know their hearts and souls, their problems and desires, the more you are able to reach out to them.

Hence it is very important to research effectively on your target market. Here are 3 way that will help you learn more about your market, fast!

A) Yahoo! Answers

Search Yahoo! Answers for related questions on your market. For example, if you are teaching people how to make money online, you might wish to search these phrases:

“Work from home”

“Internet business”

“Online income”

“Make money online”

And many more..

Read the questions and you should be able to discover a certain trend. There might be some questions that people are always asking.

If people are always asking the same usual question, then it gives you the hint that many people are looking for an answer to this question.

So, if you can help to solve this question, won’t you be able to help them and in the process receive monetary benefits for helping them?

That is how you can connect with your target market fast – By giving them what they are looking for.

Also, check out questions that are consistently unanswered. It tells you what are some of the biggest problems that your market may have but at the same time do not have a solution for it.

This might be a potential niche for you to uncover.

B. Search For Related Forums

Go and search for forums that your market is in. It is easy to do it. Just search “Your Market + Forum” on Google.

Next, check out a few forums and this: Scroll to the bottom of the forums and set the forum to search by “Most Replied” threads.

It will give you the list of topics that your market is very interested in.

Another advantage about forums is that it gives you the insight on the market’s sentiments and the current hot topic.

Knowing this helps you to relate and connect to your market more easily.

C. RSS Feeds

Subscribe to popular RSS Feeds by finding the most popular blogs in your market.

This helps you to stay in front of the market by knowing the latest updates and news.

It also helps to give you a range of different perspectives of the market.

By adopting the 3 methods above, it will provide you with a deep and wide knowledge about your market. You will know what drives them, their problems and pressing hot issues.

You don’t want to build just a customer-relationship but a deeper relationship whereby you are like a friend to them who can confide in you with their problems.

That is REAL connection.

Are you sitting on your desk and looking at the clock every 5 minutes or wondering when will the day ends so that you can leave the office?

Or do you dread opening your eyes in the morning due to the endless amount of work that is waiting for you?

This happened to me exactly 20 years ago.

I decided to “change” my life.

I saw the power of the internet and the attractiveness of earning money online from home and dived right in.

But I did not make a cent for 5 years.

I realised that I was still stuck in an employee mentality and looking for an easy way out. Out of desperation, I simply my formula and focus working on it.

I began to treat it like a real business which operated from home.

Things changed and I got my first sale and the rest was history.

Ever since, I had been encouraging and teaching students from all over the world to start their online business.

By investing into an internet home based business, you can avoid all the negative things associated with going to the office everyday.

Most people dream of a home based job not only because it offers them an opportunity to work at home but also because of it financial rewards.

There are many home based job but I encourage you to operate an internet business instead.

Own the internet business so that you can truly be free. Even if you love your job, use the internet business to supplement your income so that you can enjoy life.

I am not sure where you are reading this post from but from where I am in Singapore, the cost of living has rose significantly.

However, the income level has not increased at the same pace.

Do you ever find yourself scrolling through the Facebook timeline and seeing your friends posting their holiday or enjoying delicious meals and that you are envying them?

The truth is that while income level has not increased much, our wants have increased due to the usage of social media.

Now, if you are willing to learn and grow your own internet business. Things can change for the better.

Internet business affords one all the freedom to do as he pleases and to operate his business using his own style and skills.

In addition, an internet business requires little capital and low overhead. You do not need expensive rentals or additional facilities cost. All you need is internet connection and a computer or laptop.

If you are an employee, you get a fixed amount of pay no matter how much effort you put in. But if you invest in your internet business and grow it, you will reap greater rewards and satisfaction.

Lastly, you do not need to do this full time. You can start by using your free time first and then slowly grow it.

Ultimately it is your business and you decide the pace of the growth.

Once the revenue from your internet business is greater than your fixed pay, you are more than welcome to invest more time to grow your online business larger.
